We're In......

Okay, FINALLY, he thinks we are cool. We are big play things. Again, today huge improvements in his happiness levels. They come out of nowhere, just when you think it will never happen, you put some green thing in your mouth and move just the right way, and they burst out with laughter. We had another early, scheduled morning full of appointments, and another fabulous opportunity to ride in a car, so no time to just let Zee be himself and get relaxed. It's a lot of chopping and changing, but he only protested the car for 4 minutes inside this time, then relaxed into it. By the end of the appointments, he passed out on my lap in the taxi coming home. Task number one.......tackled..Moving vehicles equal sleep. Next task, airplane. So we get back to hotel, and he decides to scream his brains out again because I CANNOT read what he needs yet. I think he needs more sleep, but actually he wants to eat the buffet in bed........ Scott comes into the room with lunch and I am trying desperately to console him, and mister daddy takes him from me, puts him on the bed and starts to feed him fried rice off the fork. Instant happiness. For the next hour, we play in all kinds of foods...banana's, papayas, fried rice, fresh lemonade out of a straw ( so he will poo). He then decides to laugh at mama with strange green thing in her face and whack at it with his spoon. He decides this in the funniest thing he has ever seen and his laugh in infectious. I cry, Scott is relieved, and we finally feel well on our way to "normal". What a relief to see your child laugh a real laugh. We show him all sorts of things, like put straw into mouth and suck, put straw through green hoop, push dump truck with monster truck in back. He instantly does all we show him. He decides to look at the family album and we swear he pointed to da-da. He then attaches himself to the photo of his niece Kayla and won't let it go (Not surprised Holly??) He points to all in the album repeatedly, then points to Arnold Schwazeneger on the television.?? Anyone care to interpret?? He is still on his learning rampage as I write this. He suddenly decided to stand on his own and start walking on bed. We knew all along he could, he just needed to do it in his time. I think this will be the story of his life. He is an awesome communicator, we just have to learn to read him.
The doctor visit today was what I expected. He weighs 19 pounds, and for 15 months that makes the clinical decision that he is malnourished. I hate hearing those words, but the doctor assures me this is very normal, and to feel him lots of mashed potatoes, papaya, banana and a lot of food. So far, he digs fried rice with egg and chicken and bananas. Loves his wheat free teething biscuits. It's going to be a long road. He did NOT like the papaya, but I will try again tomorrow like it never happened, just like him. And one more important thing. We have kept the name Zavier for him middle name, and have evolved into calling him Zien. Sounds like the Irish name Eon, with a Z in front. It's a long story, but his Vietnamese name he was called frequently and it just felt so natural to keep the sound of it, but we played with the Z in front, and he likes it. Today, he knows it's his name.

Wow, great posts! How you even have time to post pictures & video to boot. I's amazing but much appreciated. All I could think of when you talk about him being a greaat communicator and the bouts at screaming at the top of his lungs is.....when in the orphanage, he probably learned very quickly that he who squawks the loudest gets what he needs the fastest...translated into a wonderfully intelligent and resourceful guy. After all, it's baby's only means of communication in the early months. He is so lucky to be discovering a new and stimulating world with you guys. Each day is a new adventure for all of you and the main ingredient is love....along with your wonderful natural instincts.
Love, MOM

You are ALL so amazing - your interactions with each other and the patience and openness to his "coaching" is but a part of what defines the two of you as wonderful parents! And, Shauna, the postings and pics are such a delightful way for all of us to "be there" with you guys!
I can write this now after my tears of joy for the three of you and what is hopefully not too far on the horizon for Bob and I. My heart is so full of joy and too many other emotions to describe! I can't wait for you ALL to come to his "other" home where the most important part of his life will continue - adventures and the ups and downs of FINALLY finding a family to call his own!

I love you,
Jami

That video is the coolest thing that I've seen in a while!! So exciting!!! He's so darling and HAPPY. You know, I think the name change is a good idea. Is that Zen (remember the "hen" thing from your pedicurist??) OR is that Zee-on as in neon??? Doesn't matter-you're right, he needs to recognize his name, things are probably confusing enough.

He is the most gorgeous little guy. I love his smile. You guys have been through so much in such a short time. Major accomplishments!! What a little trooper. The expressions on both you and Scott are so sweet as well. You can see the emotions so clearly. It is truly amazing how a little human being could change your lives so fast. Isn't it great! :) Love reading the blog and looking at the pictures and the videos.....more please! Christina

Ahhh....the first laugh, caught on video no less! Isn't parenthood amazing? We can't wait to meet little Zien in the flesh. But for now, we know you must be exhausted (yet exhilarated), so we'll just say congratulations and keep on doing what you do so naturally. Love Chris, John, Greta and Johnny.

I was looking at Zien's picture and I had to take a double take because I see that he is holding our Kayla's picture! Oh and about him pointing at all the pictures and pointing at Arnold S...he is simply saying Kayla is near where Arnold is at! LOL :) He sure is amazing little guy and so handsome too!! I want his lips! they are so full and perfect! I can't wait for us to have playdates with the kids and let them go crazy together...I showed Kevin and Kayla pictures of Zien, the ones you have posted and Kayla just smiled instantly at his picture and did not take her eyes off of him until I closed the page and Kevin wants to know if he can walk and if he will share his cars and trucks with him. Kevin is very excited to have another boy cousin to relate to. Oh and Kevin saw your picture shauna and he insisted that I make the picture bigger so he can see you better ...and he said uncle scott looks tired! ha ha we all miss you guys and look forward to hanging out and playing with the kids real soon! We will have to plan a shopping trip. (we must get Zien trained on our little shopping trips!!!) I can't wait for Zien to be here! hurry back!
